Can anyone give me their ideas or experiences with service magic? I seem to have seen good and bad reviews in another thread and I have not made up my mind about them. How many leads do you average/month and what percentage of them result in actual jobs? What type of leads do you normally get (service work, remodel, service upgrades etc...)? I know this will vary by region but I'd still be very interested to hear anyones opinions on them. Thanks for any info.

I know nothing about that company in particular, nor about this type of service arrangement. But I can share my business philosophy: ?I want my client to make more money with my help than they would have made without my help, and I want to get a fair share of the difference.?

That company is going to make money from their client (i.e., you), whether or not you make more money with their help than you would have made without it. I would not be comfortable with such an arrangement.

I've got a friend who's got a painting/general contracting business and he signed on with Service Magic when he first started up. Very quickly he had more work than he could handle. Now he's got a project renovating 150 apartments, from a lead he got through Service Magic. But he may be the exception. I don't hear too many stories like his.

Check out Contractor Talk about service magic. Not so many good stories. Like getting charged for leads that were not relevant to their trade, paying for dead end leads for people that were just pricing out jobs, and lots of low ball bids. I myself have tried a similar service called reliable remodeller, I used them because they were cheaper than service magic at the time. Sure I got a few jobs, but nothing special, barely enough to cover the cost of their service over the long haul. I have come to the conclusion that to build my business it is just going to be a long marathon where I need to slowly build up my customer base and not a sprint, and no "magic" is going to help. Also in NJ.

I listened when they contacted me. It wouldn't help me out. You pay for every lead whether you want it or not. If you are too busy to look at or take a job, you still pay. If you are just starting out and do not have a customer base, it may be beneficial.
