How's it going !
Got a question , a Service Rated ATS has to be fed from Service , or can it be fed from a main breaker in a switchboard ?
would it cause a tripping malfunction between the switchboard breaker and the main breaker in the ATS
Would it be easier to change the Serv .Rated ATS for a Non SR ATS
Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your answer , Don!
For some reason I thought it may cause some sort of problem having 2 main disconnects in series .
I'm probably just overthinking.

Assuming a SR ATS has a breaker, and a NON SR ATS does not (which is usually what those words mean), then paying for a service rated ATS when you don't need it probably adds unnecessary cost. Only other potential issue I can think of is, if it does NOT have a breaker, then you need to pay attention to its SCCR rating and it WILL require a certain ocpd ahead of it to get different SCCR ratings. If what you have ahead of it gets you where you need to be then great, but if not you will be adding an ocpd anyway.
