OK, I'm probably being a dummy but... I had a guy ask me "is that circuit breaker service rated?". Needless to say, not only did I not know the answer but couldn't seem to find anything in the NEC on how to identify a "service rated" breaker from a "non service rated breaker". Could one of you guru's out there point me in the right direction?

Thanks a bunch!

Re: Service Rated Breaker Identification?

The breaker is UL listed 489. When the breaker is placed in an enclosure as an assembly it than can be service rated, that is "assuming" that you mean SE rated, if all of the UL requirements are met for a SE device.

Re: Service Rated Breaker Identification?

Thanks for the info! Is there a "source" such as a book, etc. that I can use to show the engineers this? I already know they will not accept any answer unless it's in a publication where they can read it themselves.

Re: Service Rated Breaker Identification?

Refer to NEC art 230 part V, Service Equipment-General and Art 110-3 and 110-21 Markings.
