I have 2 panels :
panel A(ckts inside the house) load calc. =182 A
panel B (outdoor ckts + few others) load calc = 72A

now 182 + 72 = 254A
so I need a 400A service and 2 main breakers 1- 200A for panel A and 1- 100A for panel B.

what configuration would you use for this service? ameter/combo ? or a meter can the 2 main breakers ? i'm looking for the most economical configuration for this service.if have a brand and model please post it.Its residential single phase

Seimans, Cutler Hammer and Homeline all make a 400A meter/panel combo. Cost at The Home Depot is only $500 or $600

One 200A main supplies a 40 space bus in the meter/combo and an additional 200 A breaker supplies a seperate panel to be installed wherever you like.

Here is a Cutler Hammer I started on yesterday. The second 200A main installs to the right of the existing one. I am installing another 40 space panel inside, toward the center of the house.

i believe you will find using a 400 amp base (Some utility's supply these to customer), and come out of base with 200 amp NEMA 3R breaker assembly to feed the 200 amp panel inside, and than use a 100 amp NEMA 3r Breaker panel with ample circuit capacity for the outside panel. I have used this combo before and it is less expensive than the 400 amp combo. I priced one recently and it was around $600.00, and i can buy meter can, 200 amp disc and 100 amp 20 circ panel for around 475.00. One additional consideration is if UG service, you may have to install wireway to keep from being utility wire space in meter base.

a supplier just gave me a quote for that configuration and making a comparison with the meter combo I save 3 bucks. its was all GE

I got this one at Home Depot (in AZ)

They will order one for you if they don't stock them locally.
