Hi,
This is my first time as a new member. I've been studying for electrical inspector test. I came across with a question, and can't get the right answer. I'll appreciate the help.
"A mobile HOME PARK is to have 34 LOTS. What is the minimum allowable size of THW feeder conductors supplying these lots?"
The answer is given 1,000 kcmil. Code Cycle 2015, NJ.
Thank you,

There is no 2015 code cycle unless nj has something else going on.

I am bumping this up because I am on vacation so hopefully someone can help you out. I know there is a minimum per lot for mobile home parks.

I think the answer is in 550.31 if I remember correctly

okay

550.31 states 16000 watts minimum. Therefore we have 34 homes times 16,000 va.

544,000 va x demand factor of .24 from the table in 550.31

544,000 x .24= 130,560 va

130,560/240 = 544 amps

Table 310.15(B)(16) shows 1000 kcm at 545 amps in the 75C column

I'm sorry. I mistyped it is 2014 Code Cycle.

Thank you

Hi,
Thank you.
But, why nit table 310.15(B)17. I thought it would be up in the air.

Kenan

If it was in the air then that info would have to be given. Always use 310.15(B)(16) unless you are told otherwise. I think most new trailer parks are underground now.

THW would be typical for a conductor in a raceway or cable.

But without other details I think you kind of have to assume the necessary conductor size based on 75C terminations. Overhead conductors may be able to use a different table but will ultimately end up transitioning to a conductor sized per 310.15(B)(16) before it terminates on service/feeder equipment. Underground conductors will also need to be per 75C termination as a general rule.
