Currently I am assisting a home owner on a custom built home on generating a punch list. There are two clearance questions that I would like your assistance with.
1. At the distribution panel there is 33" of clearance in front of the panel, directly behind the electrician that would work on the panel there is a HVAC condensing unit. It has always been my understanding that the minimum clearance is 36" directly in front of the distribution panel. Am I correct? Are there any variances that the General Contractor may be allowed to do this?
2. In this equipment area there are also some pool controls that turn on & off the pool pumps. This control center is blocked by a blower motor that works with the spa and the front door to the control center can only be opened about 45 degrees. If there are any wiring changes, or component trouble shooting / repairs that need made, the door needs to be removed to access the components. Is this permissable under NEC, or should the blower or control center be relocated to allow access?
