I would like to see a show of hands and or opinions about using EMT set screw or compression connectors on the bottom side of a meter base.

There was some discussion about this at my last CEU class.

The meter base for this "discussion" was outdoors.

One side of the argument is it is fine to use Set-screw on the bottom because water will not travel up so set-screw is acceptable.

By that logic, I can use old newspapers, overlapped just like shingles, to cover my house. The point is, is the fitting rated for outdoor use? In other words, will it still be there in 5 years, or will there be a chunk of rust and/or corrosion?

Are there set screw EMT fittings listed for wet locations?

314.15 Damp or Wet Locations.
In damp or wet locations, boxes, conduit bodies, and fittings shall be placed or equipped so as to prevent moisture from entering or accumulating within the box, conduit body, or fitting. Boxes, conduit bodies, and fittings installed in wet locations shall be listed for use in wet locations.
