:-? I have a Military Project coming up that requires the demolition of a 15KV substation and the primary switch contains 15#'s of SF6(sodium hexaflouride)
which must be removed prior to the demo. This project is in Charleston, SC and I can't seem to find anyone to do this. Does anyone know how to approach this or who to call? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Free cattle toothpaste....

Free cattle toothpaste....

Do what the military used to do ... dump it on the ground and blame it on someone else. :D

Or, call up Colgate Palmolive and sell it to them for tooth paste.

Or, put an add in Craigs list for speicial heavy dooty tooth past for cattle.

Or, Ship it to a China tooth paste manufacturning plant with no return address.

Lame, I know.

My question would be is SF6 a gas that is considered toxic or unsafe to just release into the open air? I thought it was inert and considered harmless.

Or is it a matter of SF6 being expensive enough to make recovery worthwhile?

Thanks Randy..when are we gonna go on that generating plant tour we'd discussed some time ago? :D I may even work up enough courage to do a substation tour also...

Sulfur Hexa-Fluoride is considered one of the greenhouse gases. Contact EPA for specifics. So far it is under voluntary control, but its strict regulation is been in the works for eyars and probbaly will be done under the current administration.

Is Randy setting up tours of stuff only people like us would enjoy? Count me in! Did I ever mention that I took my 7 month pregnant wife on the hard hat tour into the bowels of Hoover Dam? Still wont let me live that one down.

LOL I gotta nip this in the bud before it gets out of hand:

First, Apology to Randy for bringing up the tour offer here..

Second: Guys, Randy offered me a tour of a generating station after I had said there was no way I'd ever go into a substation after some things I'd seen and heard happening in a substation. :D

I don't think his clients would be too keen on too many folks showing up for tours..

Back on topic: Randy and weressl, thanks for the responses. Not aware the SF6 was pricey and a greenhouse gas to boot.

So releasing it into the open air would be a bad idea...
