Shaded pole motor

It sort of a side effect of being very low efficiency motors in the first place. They have lots of impedance and low efficiency no matter what the rotor speed, and the stalled rotor just doesn't make much difference.

When I saw this I had to post something: I had a girlfriend years ago that was CERTAIN that leaving the bath fan on (forgetting about it), it would catch on fire. No matter what I did to explain how it would not, she never believed me. It's a part of why we broke up, among other bizarre beliefs.

You should have put a twist timer on it.
I've done that for my bath fans and wall heaters.
Forgetful people live here.......

I actually have timed outlet for the coffee pot
OMG. That was the other obsession she had, that the coffee pot was always forgotten about... UGH... And then the stove. It was endless. Everything was potentially going to "burn the house down". It was unbearable. When she started believing that the neighbors were conspiring to "steal things out of her garage" that was it. Later on I was doing some HVAC design work for the SONIC drive in company and the regional manager was her brother in law! I told him about what she was like and found out she was disowned from her family, that she was nuts and had some sort of compulsive disorder. She sued her ex for thousands of $$ when he broke up with her. It was bad.
