NEC 2014 section 225.10 says shall be permitted. This language is confusing. Is this mandatory rule or is this option and cables mentioned NEC 2014 section 225.10 can be routed without conduit surface of building?

it requires the AHJ to permit you to use any one or more of the 18 wiring methods listed in that section for circuits run on the outside of the building or structure.

What if cables area are subject to physical damage even with wiring methods mentioned 225.10? Like UF? Regardless they still must follow

All wiring methods must be installed in compliance with the requirements in their respective articles.
