If you run a 12-4 to feed multiple circuits for floor machines does the NEC require a 3 pole breaker on this run. I say no but someone said it is code. Are they basing it on NEC 210.4 which I feel does not apply or did the inspector interpit it wrong. This 12-4 feeds 120 volt outlets in 3000 Wiremold mounted on a wall at a medical university.

Re: Shared neutral

Unless the circuit/s land on a single yoke there is no requirement for a multi-pole breaker or handle ties.

210-4 (specifically 210-4(b)) would only apply to Dwelling Units.

If we were to classify this "Multiwire Branch Circuit" as "Multiple Branch Circuits" 210-7 might be applicable but wouldn't change anything if multiple devices were used.
