Does anybody know of any NEC sections addressing shared trenches? Specifically any required separation between gas and electric? Thanks!

None in the NEC. For service conductors - gas, check with the POCO or GASCO.

That would be ridiculous. If separation is needed or required, a distance should be given. I don't see what a trench has to do with it.

I am not saying that separation is not prudent, but again, give me a distance and leave the "not in same trench" nonsense out of it

Thanks for the input. I think separation is wise, but without a code reference I can't/won't enforce it. I recommended pushing the gas tight to one side, and electric to the other in his 12" wide trench. I recommended a trick I saw that helps, using scrap pvc conduit to make stakes, it makes for a clean, stable separation.

Just a few weeks ago I did a job where the utility did require separation. The civil contractor dug me a four foot wide trench.

On the POCO side it's easy because their requirements are more strict than building code. Private side is far more lenient, I guess you can't sue the POCO if it's on your side.
