Yesterday I posed a question., about Electrical wiring and Plumbing, etc. sharing a trench. Granted I thought that I had seen something in the code book about not being able to but mixed it up with article 300.8 knowing that that is not the same. But I have some associates that are concerned because this very thing has taken place the feeder wires are tight against the Plumbing pipes. The pipe has need of repair.
I could be wrong, but as I recall water don't mix very well. Now I think it might be a Utility thing about joint use of a trench. Min. of 1' vertical and 2' horizontal separation is required. 300.5(D)(3) warning tape also should be used. I have come to the best of the best for an answer, PLEASE HELP your thoughts or advice would be appreciated. THANKS!!

Look here.

Edited to add:
Click on the word here above.

You made no mention of these being a service entrance (300.5(D)(3)) and they can?t be in a race or cable tray with other pipes but you did say buried.

Re: Sharing a trench

I am going to close that other thread, as we now have duplicate discussions going on. The discussion should continue here. If you want to know what the "other thread" is, use Mike's link.

Re: Sharing a trench

This issue is not addressed in any code that I have read. There are provisions in the IRC and the IPC that address clearance between waste water and potable water, but that is the only trench issue that I am aware of.
