I have an industrial control panel going into a class 1 div 1 area. Do I need to put the short circuit current rating on the panel? The NEC book is difficult to understand. I know you have to for general use area but does it also apply to hazardous locations?

Re: short circuit current rating in hazardous areas

Until now, I haven't given the new Article 409 a lot of direct thought and I'm still dealing with an online version of the 2005 NEC which is hard for my old eyes to read; however, my initial evaluation of 409.110 would lead me to believe it would apply to hazardous locations also.

There?s a catch and I?d like some of our colleagues that are more familiar than I am with UL508A and UL698 to comment. In most cases explosionproof enclosures have their own available short-circuit limitations. Unless otherwise marked its 10kAic. I?m not sure how that would affect the overall marking.
