Can surface mounted fixture suitable for wet locations be used in a shower or does it have to say suitable for shower use? If not why?

Yes! This fixture will be wall mounted 8' above the floor. Thge shower has a vaulted ceiling, believe it or not.

8 foot above the floor is a dry location, any fixture will work.

I agree with "bennie", 8ft from the shower threshold is legal for any type fixture.
