Can Shrink wrap be used over a green wire to make it a hot conductor? I was looking at 310.11(B) 1. Thanks!!!

That means to me that it is not allowed.(Shall not conflict). Is this what you see or Do I need to look further?

I would say no! for several reasons
If this a cable then you would be missing a ground,
if this is conduit from what i recall it must be the same color it's entire legnth ?
The wire must contain it's type markings THW, THHN 90 deg ect
The green would show and its a bad idea

The man in charge bought a reel of green wire because he got it cheep. He TOLD us to use it and shrink wrap where needed. I don't think this is right. I am all for saving money, but I don't think this is right. What do you think? Any inspectors or Master's thoughts!!! (Boss is not an Electrician).

Did you look at 250.119?
Green shall not be used for ungrounded or grounded circuit conductors.

If you shrink wrap it then you run afoul of 310.12(C)- Conductors that are intended for use as ungrounded (meaning hots) shall be finished to be clearly distinguishable from grounded (meaning neutrals) and grounding (meaning equipment ground) conductors. Distinguishing markings shall not conflict in any manner with surface markings required by 310.11(B)(1)

Added- The gut who is telling you to do this is not likely to listen at all no matter how well you prove him wrong.

Yes but with your help I have a defense against the inspector.

I'm a bit confused by that statement. You should not have to, nor should you try to, defend a non-compliant installation.

If your boss won't listen to you he will have to listen to the inspector and the red tag that the inspector will hang on the job.

Is this colored shrink wrap ? Can I cover a black wire with toliet paper to make it a neutral ?

Where do these ideas come from ? Go to the supply house & buy some colored tape.

I am now lost. How would colored tape be helpful here. Conductors smaller than number six AWG cannot be recoded by any means whatsoever.
