Is there any code section that would not allow the use of a remote shunt trip as a disconnecting means for a structure. A property with multiple buildings where there is one switchgear at the property line and 800 amp feeders running into the basement of the other structures. Rather then have an 800 amp disconnect inside the basement, would a shunt trip breaker at the switchgear and a push button in the basement meet the code requirement ? Or is it a problem that someone could reset the remote breaker?

Taking away the remote ST idea does your installation meet code requirement? If so it is of my opinion that adding a ST to this installation for convenience is acceptable. Since it's common for a ST to be activated by a supply voltage such as 120ac, by loosing this voltage the ST can not be activated. Should there be a loss of power at the facility and it would be required to open a main disconnect it would be required to open it manually.

In my opinion 225.38 combined with 225.32 prohibit it.
That is what I was wondering. It has come up at a very high profile job that was the conclusion.
