Others have mentioned it depends on the manufacturer, but in that size I have never seen a shunt trip breaker that didn't take one extra pole position, regardless of the number of phases. We provide shunt trip breakers regularly for the shut down of kitchen equipment as part of kitchen range hood suppression system installs.

I have the exact opposite experience. I have not seen a 100A 3 pole breaker what WOULD be any different size with or without a shunt trip, at least not in the last 20 years or so. But then again in that time I have not done anything other than industrial work. Most of the industrial grade MCCBs have the STs installed at the factory in the back of the case behind the rear barrier, or newer designs now have "pockets" in the front of the case into which you can field mount accessories such as STs, UVTs, and aux contacts of various configurations without changing anything else about the breaker.Others have mentioned it depends on the manufacturer, but in that size I have never seen a shunt trip breaker that didn't take one extra pole position, ....
