Can a 100amp 3phase shunt trip breaker trip because of excessive ambient heat. Shunt seems to be tripping periodicly. Any help with this would br greatly appreciated.

If it is a thermal mag breaker high heat could well cause it to trip at a less than rated current.

I doubt the shunt part of it cares one iota about the ambient temperature unless it is way high. If it is the shunt itself that is tripping the breaker I would be looking at what is triggering the shunt and not blaming ambient temperature at the CB. The shunt is just there to take an external signal and use it to trip the breaker.

High heat may effect the thermal trip point.

Shunt trip should be purely mechanical operation that only happens after energizing the shunt coil.

If you turn off power to the shunt trip, and the breaker still nuisance trips, then you know it might be overload or something else like internal high resistance in the breaker contacts.

If turning off the shunt trip power is not allowed, perform a fall of potential test on the breaker while it is loaded.
