need to know about installation termination of shunt trip breaker to a 120 volt recepticle in connection with a kitchen commercial range hood..
have a shunt trip breaker behind a cooking grill commercial grade===how does a shunt trip terminate at the breaker and terminate at the recepticel==never installed one before need help

Very open question what do you need to know?

Do you have a shunt trip CB presently you are going to install?

Is there something about this CB?

Has the hood installer shown you the contacts to connect to?

Do you have a question how to interface these contacts to the CB?


A few question for starters
 
It gets connected to the NO contacts on the ANSUL. Larry Fine presented a fantastic ladder diagram in a former thread that outlined this very nicely.
 
Be careful with shunt trip breakers for underhood power shutoff. The shunt trip breaker requires a power source to operate. If the control power for the shunt trip circuit gets turned off, the ST breaker will not function. I have been putting all the underhood appliances on a separate panel that is fed from a contactor to avoid this problem. Other option is an undervoltage trip breaker.
 
You are probably refering to an Ansul system. The technician from Ansul installs the emergency pull "switch" with 1/2" EMT. But he uses aircraft cable and special fitting with pulleys instead of bends. The cable is under tension by a spring and when the "switch is pulled" it releases contacts withing the hood box [upper left?].
Within this Ansul box, tou have a choice of Normally Open and Normally Closed contacts. You attach your power feed to the normally open contact. When the "switch" is pulled due to a fire, the contact closes, sends power to the 120 volt connection on the shunt mechanism of the breaker and this power causes the breaker to trip shutting off power to the electric oven or grill or whatever. [Whatnot?]
Also this release initiates the Ansul mechanism which releases some sort of fire fighting chemical all ov4er the place. Also solenoids controlling the gas flow, if any, must be shut off. All recepticals and light bulbs under the hood must also be turned off.
Also some fans have to be turned off and other fans must be turned on.
