GC keeps insisting that the exhaust fan for the hood must shunt and turn off when ansul system fires, I have told him I never seen that in the last 5 identical buildings, as far as I know I am right, when everything shunts, the exhaust fan turns on! Not off, am I mistaken?

That is the way I have alsays done it. On trip: Makeup air off, Exhaust on, Gas off, Electric under hood off

NFPA 96:
8.2.3 ExhaustFanOperation.
8.2.3.1 A hood exhaust fan(s) shall continue to operate after
the extinguishing system has been activated unless fan shutdown is required by a listed component of the ventilation system or by the design of the extinguishing system.
8.2.3.2 The hood exhaust fan shall not be required to startupon activation of the extinguishing system if the exhaust fanand all cooking equipment served by the fan have been shutdown.
8.2.3.3 The exhaust fan shall be provided with a means so
that the fan is activated when any appliance under the hood is
turned on.

NFPA 17:
9.3.5.2* Exhaust fans and dampers shall not be required to be
shut down upon system actuation.

I think they're confusing the exhaust fan with the make-up air fan.
