I have come across a case where the flange mount disconnect handle is not mounted on the flange by the door but mounted out the side of the enclosure.
This is the main disconnect of an industrial control cabinet. The handle is a cable operator to the circuit breaker. It is accessable if you are standing at the side of the enclosure which is 40" deep. It seems to meet the requirements of external operation, indication of condition, etc.
Is there a problem here? I have not seen a flange disconnect handle mounted anywhere but on the flange by the door facing forward.
