Siemens AUTO Voltage Transformer

Can anyone tell me what this auto XFMR is used for? It is located on a voltage regulator that is wired straight or "Type A". I know what an auto transformer does but I am not sure the application in this instance.

It looks like a Potential Transformer (PT) that is used for metering or relay circuit protection in MV gear.
Would help if you sent us the schematic or wiring diagram.
