Hello, I was wondering if anyone else has been experiencing issues with Siemens AFCI breakers. Our company is primarily residential an we switched over to Siemens about 6 months ago. Since then we have been having random tripping issues. I'll use the last home I was at as a example.

(First trip out) The homeowner called in about 2 problem breakers, (both AFCI breakers) one for his study, the other for his media room. Both were tripping multiple times per day with no correlation to a load. The homeowner also stated he had a few other breakers that would also randomly trip just not nearly as frequent. (All AFCI) I went through and checked all connections on the circuits, tested for continuity, and load tested. (All looked good) I switched out both breakers to dual functions (AFCI/GFCI). As I had experienced a few other homes having issues with the siemens AFCI breakers. I told the homeowners to use it as they normally would and let me know if they have anymore issues.

About 2 weeks later the homeowner got back with me saying that the two breakers I replaced had no other tripping issues. However there was still some random tripping in the other AFCI breakers. About one per day but not the same one over and over, just seemed to be a random one. I went back out and replaced all the AFCI breakers that where left in their panel with AFCI/GFCI breakers and now about 2 months later still no tripping.

Just looking for any additional information as I have a meeting with a Siemens engineer tomorrow. Thanks!

My company does residential HVAC install as well as electrical. We stopped using them and switched to Eaton. The Siemens would be fine for a while and randomly trip or just be bad from the start. Mind you we run a new dedicated home run every time so it’s not the conductors.
Will be interested in hearing what you find out
