Good Morning,

I have recently signed up for Viviant Solar here in San Diego and they have sent their electrical team to my house to hook it up to our Breaker Panel. I currently do not have any open Breakers but they said they can double tap either my A/C or Main Breaker. The A/C breaker is a Siemens Murray 2 pole type MP-T. I have searched long and hard, but can not find out if this type of breaker allows 2 conductors. It is a 120/240 breaker. I just want to make sure that this install is done correctly. Any and all advise and help is much appreciated. Thank you

Well I looked on their web site and they say they will get all the permits and inspections that are required. I believe I would hold them to that.

I want to hold them to it, but I do not know if they are doing it correctly or incorrectly to hold them to what is right. Can Murray Breakers have 2 conductors? All I have read is that there are only 2 brands of Breakers that are built for 2 conductors.

Derek,

Thank you. I have a copy of the permit from the company but nothing regarding the breaker panel. I will call SD permit offices and ask them some questions. Again, Thank you.

I do not understand what you mean.

At the end of the job when inspection time comes the inspector will look at the connection to the panel.

I am surprised they would say "double tap". It is kind of a dirty word in electrical panel inspections. Maybe they meant something else. Murray and Seimens both make tandem breakers. If they need two spots and you have four single pole breakers in your panel you can put in two tandem breakers. The four wires from the regular breakers will now go two each to the tandem breakers. This will give you two spaces in the panel to work with.

Good Morning,

If the name of the company is "Vivint Solar" I would read the reviews from some of their customers before entering a contract with them.

The reviews that I was reading had about 50% of their customers that were not happy and those are not good odds.

I dont know what "double tap" means. I have never heard the phrase before. It sounds like maybe they want to interconnect to a branch circuit - that is not allowed.
The breaker which interconnects the PV to the feeder or service wiring must be dedicated to PV.
If the PV connects by dedicated beaker or breakers to a sub panel which also contains loads, that is fine as long as the bus protection rules (120% rule as one option) are followed.
