Ran into one of these today. Never seen one before. Wasn't sure what I was looking at until I looked it up on their website.

This circuit was feeding an above ground gasoline tank pump motor.

Can someone give me a NEC reference that requires this breaker for this application.
Thanks!

On a side note, the leads for this pump motor (115v) had 3 wires, black, white, and brown.
The brown wire was labeled as a control wire. I didn't have any wire diagram reference for how to deal with the brown wire. Ended up capping it and not using it.
Any input is appreciated!

From the 2008:

514.11 Circuit Disconnects.
(A) General. Each circuit leading to or through dispensing
equipment, including equipment for remote pumping systems,
shall be provided with a clearly identified and readily
accessible switch or other acceptable means, located remote
from the dispensing devices, to disconnect simultaneously
from the source of supply, all conductors of the circuits,
including the grounded conductor, if any.
Single-pole breakers utilizing handle ties shall not be
permitted.

Thanks.
I remember looking at that code article but always thought it would've been done by a 2-pole switch or some similar method.

I never even knew this type of breaker existed.

Any input into what the brown control wire at the pump motor is?
Much appreciated!

Only switched neutral breakers I have ever seen were QO, and installed a few as well, but I figured others must have them.

Brown wire is likely for aux control of other items - basically an interlock contact is within the motor and brown lead has voltage on it when motor is running. Just cap it if you are not controlling anything else off the motor.
