Sign disconnect

I have a High School customer that is putting up a new marquee sign. It is approximately 100' from the building across the parking lot. They really don't want a disconnect on the sign. Could I put a single pole light switch on the sign that operates a lighting contactor back at the building? The sign requires (3) seperate 20a, 120v circuits. The closest panel is 1ph. Do I have to simultaneous disconnect the branch circuits ahead of the contactor?

No, you may not use a control circuit as the disconnecting means. 600.6(A)

Yes. 600.6(A)(1)

It appears that 600.6(A)(2) will allow the disconnecting means to be located away from the sign ahead of the contactor if provided with a means to lock the disconnect open.

However the inspectors in my area expect a disconnect out at the sign, not worth fighting it.

That is a common way that it is done here and usually the sign comes with them already installed.
I like the idea of a 3 pole switch, but obviously 210.7b would apply right? What am I going to do, put a 3pole breaker in the 1ph. panel?

Another 3 pole disconnect cable of being locked open ahead of the contator will be required.
