Just wanted some quick inputs on the two. Just wanted to make sure EST is not as proprietary as Simplex. My client like Silent Knight but I am not sure it fits such a big facility.

Thank you

I would rather be dragged from Springfield to Boston behind a septic truck than deal with Simplex.

Not a huge fan of EST but would take it over Simplex for sure.

My only issue with EST panels is that they are slow to respond to operator inputs.

For instance when the alarm is sounding and you press silence it does not silence immediately. It thinks about it. And if you panic and hit the silence button a second time it 'un-silences' it.

Just kind of weird, if you change a device the panel has to 'remap' which can take seconds or the better part of an hour.

If you go with EST you will become intimately familiar with "map errors". The only way to correct that is to bring the actual laptop that programmed the panel on site and do whatever voodoo they do. Not another licensed tech from the same company, the actual laptop. Pray it never crashes. Ever. Or gets stolen.

What's wrong with Silent Knight? Unless you are doing a campus and want to see and control from a central location they should be just as good (and a WHOLE lot cheaper) than EST.

It's a feature, not a bug! :D Most panels have an adjustable lockout (SILENCE INHIBIT) that keeps you from killing the notification until x seconds have passed. This is to ensure that everyone's got the message and is on their way out of the building. Most panels start this at 0 seconds, but maybe EST is different.
