Customer brought in a foot pedal speed control, plain old variable resistor, for an Singer sewing machine that needs a new cord. What type of motor would be on it, a universal? Haven't seen the machine itself.

IME Pretty much all non-computerized consumer sewing machines use universal motors, and with that sort of speed control, it's old . The computer ones have servos.
