Got a 2 part NEC test question I don't think the answers are correct on either but not sure: The first part asks to simply calculate the total load for (12) 8600 watt cooktops in a school. Simple enough but the author used the 220.55 B column of 32% giving a total load of 33024 watts for the 12 cooktops. However, Column C for the 12 units only requires 27kW for all 12 so even though it's "permissible" to use column B it doesn't mean you "have to" use it, correct? You can use the lower calculated column correct?

The second part of the question asks what is the branch circuit ampacity for each unit? 220.14B clearly states you can use Tbl. 220.55 for the branch circuits of cooking appliances in schools and note 4 of the Tbl seems to back this up, correct? However, the author simply calculated 8600/240 = 35.8 amps and sited 210.19A.4 which states under Other Loads including cooking appliances: "shall have an ampacity sufficient for the loads served". This is understandable, but which is correct? Does 210.19A4 supersede 220.14B?

So which is correct for both parts of the question?
