single phase motor overload protection

I have an 230 vac single phase motor with six leads. Amps 11.8@230 vac I'm going to run a 20 amp dual gang breaker and 12 awg thhn wire for my power. Am I required to use overload protection in this situation?

All motors require overload protection. A single phase motor that size may already have it built in.
