Yes and the switch should be rated for the line-to-line voltage it will be interrupting.

That's what I thought, but figured there could be something in the dark depths of 430 prohibiting it ( like there is in 410 prohibiting single pole switching of electric discharge lamps).

Actually it is the opposite. See 430.84.
