Question: I have a whirlpool tub ( 1 HP) on a 20 amp circuit, 12/2. The receptacle is located 3 feet from the motor, can I use a duplex receptacle or do I need a single receptacle?
Table 210.21(b)(2) Maximum Cord-and-Plug-Connected Load to Receptacle (receptacle means 1) has a single receptacle rated for 20 amps but the maximum load is 16 amps. A duplex receptacle is rated for 20 amps, maximum load is 20 amps.
110.3(b) Instructions requires a dedicated circuit, 20 amps
Section 210.23 (A)(2) Utilization Equipment Fastened in Place The total rating of utilization equipment fastened in place, other than luminaries, shall not exceed 50 percent of the branch-circuit ampere rating where lighting unit, cord and plug connected utilization equipment not fastened in place, or both, are also supplied
