I'm intrigued, what is a 6 pulse rectifier?

The devices can be either SCRs as shown or, more commonly plain diodes.

what application are you using this for in the context of this thread?
If that was addressed to me....
Industrially, one of the more common applications is for the input stage of variable frequency drives.
I've also used six pulse rectification for high current rectifiers for anodising plants. The circuit arrangement is usually a bit different. Still six pulse but in a hexaphase arrangement.

One could use a delta wye transformer to get a 30 degree phase shift and make a 12 pulse rectifier for less ripple.
You would two secondaries, one delta, one wye.
Ddyn11 for example.

It's an arrangement often used on higher current DC supplies. This mainly to reduce AC supply harmonics. It eliminates the 5th and 7th harmonics that you get with six-pulse.
