sizing EBJ Vs ECG

Hello... quick ? on a debate we had at work. We have a 30amp circuit which we had to upsize the conductors to #8. Per 250.122 (B) we have to upsize the EGC as well, so we did accordingly. Well we came to a point where we had to make a splice and while bonding to our splice box some of us thought we could just use a #10 pig tail tied to our #8's. While others thought it had to be jumpered with a #8. 250.102 (D) doesnt state anything about upsizing a EBJ, just that it has to be sized in accordance with table 250.122. I'm not finding anything that says we have to upsize a #10 pigtail to #8 for this splice box. Any ideas on who is correct? Think we maybe reading too much into this but sure is a lot easier to screw in a 10 pigtail.
Thanks so much for any input!

That's a good question. It would seem for the short distance that a #10 would suffice. 250.102(D) states it shall be sized to 250.122 but does not say specifically Table 250.122. This in my eyes means that we must use 250.122 in it's entirety which I interpret to mean the EBJ should be sized a #8.

To sum it up-- I have no idea- I can see it both ways so why not just use the #8 with a lug.

I agree with Dennis... the equipment bonding jumper should be 8awg.

I come to this conclusion based upon 250.122(B) and the definition of equipment bonding jumper in article 100:

Bonding Jumper, Equipment. The connection between two or more portions of the equipment grounding conductor.

Since the installation falls under 250.122(B) which deals with sizing of the equipment grounding conductor and the definition of equipment bonding jumper is the connection of two or more portions of the equipment grounding conductor I believe that the size determined from 250.122(B) must be used for any portion of the EGC.

Of course, that is just my opinion :)

Pete

Thanks Pete and Dennis! We are going w/the #8 and lug. Thank you both for your input and conclusions on inturpting/clarifying this for me (as best you could). We were def looking for a quick and easy solution (i.e. #10 pigtail) as this situation will be a common occurance. Awesome to have a resource like this, and input from persons like yourselves to help! Your points of view are greatly apprectiated.
Thanks again.
-Van.
