Sizing egc

I know you size egc based on breaker per 250.122. My question is does distance play a role in sizing egc? To allow for fault current to open breaker.

If you upsize you conductors because of voltage drop or any other reason then you must upsize the equipment grounding conductor proportionately.

250.122 (B) Increased in Size. Where ungrounded conductors areincreased in size from the minimum size that has sufficient
ampacity for the intended installation, wire-type equipment
grounding conductors, where installed, shall be increased in
size proportionately, according to the circular mil area of the
ungrounded conductors.
