How are field wired conductors between supplementary overload device and the motor sized? At 100 percent or 125 percent? I thought I found the code reference but cannot find it now. Thanks.

Assuming supplemental is what you are calling separate vs internal overload, the wiring stays the same size as what is determined by 430.22
A simple regular motor, generally considered continuous unless stated elsewise, would have a branch circuit sized by 125% using the FLC from the tables, not nameplate FLA.
