I'm on a project that has a 40hp 3phase 208v elevator, the engineer is asking for a 400amp heavy duty dis. with 225amp rk5 fuses with (3) 4/0 and a #4 ground. I find this a bit excessive. I have wired numerous elevators over the years, with the majority being 40hp 208 3phase, we have always used a 175 shunt trip main in the panel board and a 200amp heavy duty dis. in the elevator equipment room w/175amp rk5 fuses and (3) 1/0's and a #6 ground. I have never been been questioned by elevator or electrical inspectors on this, which I know doesn't mean it is correct. I have looked over quite a few forums here with people asking similar questions, but I'm still a little worried I've been wrong all these years. Any input would be appreaciated.
