I was looking at the manual online before buying the unit and called service rep to get name plate information. No luck, I was going to put a 20a/2p breaker with a 20a fuse disconnect as that is what it seems to say in the manual. But after looking more I have found out that the starting current is 34 amps. I'm not sure if I should put in a 40amp disconnect to be safe.

20 amps is what you should install. If using fuses use time delay fuses or the 34 amp starting current that only lasts for a second or less may blow the fuse. An inverse time breaker will work with this starting current.
