Sizing service/feeder conductors...

I'm looking in the NEC 08:


When sizing our service and feeder conductors for single phase dwelling we

always size them according to Table 310.16. I was taught this way from the

beginning. Now when I flip back one page I see this Table 310.15(B)(6)???

Who uses else uses Table 310.15(B)(6)??? I ask EC and instructors

they don't have an answer either. Why? :confused::confused::confused:

Table 310.15(B)(6) is only for single phase and single core cable. If you have a single phase load and want to feed it from a another panel board, you can just use this table.

Incase you need three phase power, use table 310.16 for it is for multi core cable.

See below am I right or wrong.

But if you have only a building which contains all single phase equipment and you need to install single phase panel board to feed the equipment . Since the load is single phase you have to install a single core cable or feeder from a electrical source to the building panelboard.

In this case, can I not use this table 310.15(B) for single core?

Don't just look at TABLE 310.15(B)(6), read the TEXT of ARTICLE 310.15(B)(6).
 
It is more common around here to use the phrase "single conductor." And the ability to use table 310.15(B)(6) does not depend on using single conductor or multi conductor cables. What matters is that (1) You are dealing with a dwelling unit, (2) The service or feeder is single phase, 120/240 volt, and (3) The wires under discussion carry all the load of the dwelling unit.

The "signal" was a typo on my part, sorry.
Single was what I meant and you answered then cahrlieb filled in my blanks.
