SKM Dapper for Overhead Electrical

Hello,

I am using SKM to model overhead electrical. I have a couple questions:

1. How would you guys model a fused cutout? Right now I am using an ABB GridGuard switch and a S&C SM-4 fuse. I have asked SKM support if they have anything in their library for a S&C fused cutout rated at 25kV.

2. There are some single phase drops. Is there a way to show two current carrying conductors instead of three in SKM? The program seems to only like things that are three-phase.

Thanks

0. Welcome to the Forum!
1. Connect a fuse to a high voltage bus. Then press the "Library" button in the component window. The selection tree will show all the HV fuses.
2. Pick the wire type from the library (even though all the choices are 3Ø). But again in the component window, you have check boxes for which phase(s) the cable is connected to.

Thank you and thanks for the reply!

I'm unable to select which phases the cable is connected to because all the phase boxes are greyed out with a check in them.

Also as a follow up question: I am looking for square D HOM type breakers in my library in SKM and I can't seem to find them. It seems weird to me that SKM doesn't have these breakers in their library am I missing something?

The boxes may be greyed out because you haven't checked off "Unbalanced / Single-Phase" on the login window.

Square D HOM breakers are only listed for residential use. For SKM purposes, type QO, 10 kAIC will do the same thing.

Plain Switches like the GridGuard don't do anything for your SKM calculations. If you want your one-line to show a switch, right click on the fuse and pick "Symbol Selection..."

Thank you so much I appreciate it. Just out of curiosity why doesn't SKM have a library for HOM? Are the breaker characteristics exactly the same as QO?

so I change my fuse to a fused cutout symbol but it just behaves like a fuse? is there no need for a switch?

Sorry, not true, HOM can be used for commercial, and loadcenters are available in three phase configuration too. Just like Generac, it’s not specified by a lot of engineers.

Correction on the three phase, Internet search lied! But single phase is common in commercial, it is not listed as “Residential only”

HOM breakers have been in the market for almost 40 years. SKM probably has never seen the need to customize their library. I believe their standard library is based on what the manufacturers supply to them.

Dollar General is one commercial building that single phase loadcenters are common in. Strip center retail shops are usually loadcenters, single phase and three phase. Square D at one time even made plug on 480/277 volt breakers.
