We are considering purchasing the SKM software PTW Combo-Pack 1.

We are looking to do Short Circuit Coordination and Arc Flash analysis.

Is this package too much as far as the software packages it provides and what do the busses mean?
Are the busses each leg of the distribution system?

A bus is a point where a calculation, to generate an output, is performed.

Short circuit and arc flash analysis are more complicated than simply entering data and pushing a button. Remember, You can not get good results from poor data.

Are you planning to take a multi-day training course?

My company has about a dozen SKM licenses, but we have more than that number of offices nationwide. I do not know the costs. We have the arc flash and ground mat modules, as well as the basic power system analysis tools. It is fairly easy to use, but the data entry, copy & paste, and scroll-around-the-screen processes do not work the same way you may be used to (i.e., they are not like Word or AutoCAD).

If you have a building with a main switchgear, several switchboards, a number of distribution panels, and a larger number of branch circuit panels, every one of them counts as a "bus."

JWC,
We primarily use dapper, captor, afault, arc flash, device evaluation, with several networked licences each. We also have motor starting, and I think a few others but I don't use those.
I think we're up to Version 6.5 or around there.
Costs vary tremendously, because of building size and difficulty in gathering feild information. MAny of the building I work in make us survey at night with their assigned electricians.
