To any and all!

I was asked to do a piece on 'slang' terms used for material in the electrical industry today. If anyone out there would like to contribute something you have heard, you could post it or email me. Email address is - techtraining.solutions@verizon.net.
This could be very interesting and fun!!
If you do contribute, please mention the slang term and the industry term for the slang term.

Thanks!!!

Re: 'Slang '

I don't think the answers should be e-mailed to you. You got them from this forum, they should be posted to this forum. ;)

I'll give it a shot but I don't know if I know of enough to do you any good since I always insisted that everyone use the correct terms.

Again thanks and if you can remember more, keep them coming, I have a couple of weeks to put this together. Bryan, that site is awsome!

Re: 'Slang '

"minnies" -- Mineralac [invented?] conduit hangers
"Sammies" -- a variation of a hanger bolt w/ wood threads on one end and a female machine thread on the other.
A$$hole -- when wire on a reel gets under another layer.
"LRT" -- Little Red Thing. The red bushing that goes into the end of AC or MC cable.
"mud ring" -- [don't know official name offhand]
TOOLS
"razor knife" -- slang for Utility Knife. This is a bad one since there is a paper hanger's tool which actually uses a razor blade.
"screwdriver" -- electrician's chisel, prybar, doorstop, tent peg, also useful in dealing with obsolete helical compression fasteners with primative slots such as used to attach cover plates on Sieman's panels which you shouldn't buy because they still use those stupid things.
