SMALL APPLIANCE CORDS

Hi i havea question and it is in regard's to small appliance cord's for coffee pot's and etc. is it true for certain cord's you can't exceed two and half feet to three feet was just wondering if anyone has any information on this thank's :roll:

this is a UL listing requirement, not a code issue. you may find the answer in the UL information, which is on line. get the listing catagory from your coffee pot, it will be similar to this "E23451" and do a search, this will lead you to the lising information.

I beleave it should be 2' And this requirment was introduced in 1969 to prevent the cords from hanging over the sides of the counters in kitchens. so small childeren cant pull a apliance down on top of them.

Not related the NEC started mandating the instalation of island & peninsular receptacles that are almost always mounted down in the side of the cabnet. which now allows for the same problem all over again.

The problem with the 2 foot cords is, the same as the 3/wire cords, customers brought them back to the store.

3/wire to 2/wire adapters and extension cord sales increased. The consumer attitude is, if we can't use it we don't want it.
