I have a brand new panel from Siemens that is 480v 600a 3ph with 1-200a branch, 4- 125a branches and 2-70a branches but the tub is only 20w x 44h x 5.75d. Like wtf….
My only thought is jam 4-4” nipples into a trough above it. But obviously that’s still pretty tight… anyone have any other tips or tricks?

3 4" nipples are more than big enough for the amount of wires you have

We had a similar problem on a big project a few years ago. We we're running 3" and larger EMT in to standard 6" depth panels. They ended up changing all of the panels to 8" deep. I would opt for a crown box on top of the panel.

We don’t really have the option of changing them because we won’t get replacements in time. What’s a crown box? I’m assuming I have seen one but never heard that term?

How about four 3" nipples?
Yeah that’s probably fine, I didn’t do a conduit fill yet I was more or less trying to see if anyone has done something that they think works better, I’m always nervous when we do this that an inspector is going to give us a hard time on the whole “straight 8” cuz a 10x10 trough or even 12x12 is not even close.

Junction box or wireway field modified to have full/near full opening out the top of cabinet and into it?

By the letter of the law I'm guessing its a code violation but I have seen it a lot, if you were to run a 12x12x24 trough horizontal above the panel and had 4" nipples from the bottom of trough into top of panel and misc. sizes of conduit into the top with the feeder being a 4". Your not using the trough as a pull point, your going to line the 4" feeder up with a 4" nipple so you can pull straight thru, but wouldn't this violate the "straight 8" rule?
