Our plant has a lot of fans, some on floor stands, some ceiling mounted. I replace a lot of pull chain switches, as I posted awhile back.
I replaced a switch yesterday in a hanging unit. Part of the problem was that the switch was mounted on the top side of the wiring box, putting it in a terrible bind when pulled. The box had switch knockouts on all sides, so it should have been simple to relocate the switch. NOPE, the KO’s would not punch out. I took the box off & put it on a work table to punch it. Bent the box, had to straighten it back out. Wound up having to jackleg a wire loop above switch to put strong through & relieve stress. Next time, I will take the box to the shop & drill it.
Don’t give me a feature I can’t use.
