Hey guys

So my last handful of jobs have involved running emt's above a suspended ceiling...it gets pretty dark and scary above some of these ceilings, just wondering what you are using for little portable lights. I tried a head lamp - don't really like those, tried the LED mini-mags - those baby's are super bright and work well but I'd like something that stands on its own - just wondering what you guys are using - any good ideas????

Thanks!!

Thy make some battery operated led work lights but I tend to rather use the 120V lights.

For above a drop ceiling I like the light that has a strap to go on your head. That way every time you move your head to another angle you still have light without having to move a light every time you move your head. You also don't get blinded by them.

I followed fullthrottle's recommendation to get a Surefire Maximus rechargeable headlamp, and it's the best light ever. You can dial it down from low enough to just illuminate pathways and it lasts forever, and dial it up to 500 lumens for wicked illumination.

They're expensive at around $200. I lost my first one, and bought another. I lost that one, and my wife declared I wouldn't buy another, and she bought me two different cheap headlamps, that I tried to use until... I found both of the surefire headlamps under the seats in different vehicles. SO now I have two, and I take one everywhere I go for work. Fully adjustable and rechargeable are the best features, and they're pretty comfortable to wear.

I've been using Princeton Tek Apex headlamps that take 4 - AA cells for years. The headlamps are lifetime guaranteed, cost about $90, work well on rechargeable batteries.

I also have a pair of the headband lamps, tho not the expensive ones. I've gotten to where I carry around on my neck quite often... not sure if it works also as a talisman to ward off having to work in dark places, or a magnet...

either way, it's still better than having to carry around a flashlight or portable lamp most of the time.

First off I don't see anywhere where I can reply without having to "reply with quote". Be nice if I could just reply...
Anyway, if it's too dark I'll just use my phone light. Most times I just open up a few more ceiling tiles to let the light in. Unless you are talking about a suspended drywall ceiling? In that case a simple trouble light is suffice...

the simple, reply button, is at the bottom of the page on the left.

Here is what I use for lighting in the darkest areas:

damn html doesnt work

HTML directly in post text is not supported. You can get the same effect by using the "link" icon (a single link of chain) in the format bar.
Highlight the text you want to attach the link to, press "link" and enter the URL.
The result is a set of [ U R L ] tags which work similarly to < href> tags but are converted by the server to HTML when you view the post.

I just found one of these in the road:

Milwaukee-M18-TrueView-LED-Worklight-Standing-Up.jpg

Complete with battery and charger and a bunch of other stuff. Must have fallen off somebody's truck or something. I made an honest attempt to find its owner. Anyway, I just used it today running wire above a suspended ceiling. Has a hexagon shape so you can point it straight across, angle up, or straight up.

That has got to be a lot cooler than Quartz lights. Do they come as a tripod stand?

Utilitech makes this one. LED, removable tripod.
