Smoke Alarm....

I have a situation where some of the smoke alarms are "chirping". These units I believe are hard wired with battery backup. I've been told that when the batteries are changed it stops for about a day and then begins again. Any thoughts?

Are these BRK smoke detectors? There have been problems with them recently.

I'm not sure what type, I was told about this by the HO over the phone. I'll check into the brand. I should be going to the house for some other work, so I'll check into it at that time.

how old are the detectors , are they hard wired. If over 5yrs one of the detectros could have a faulty sensor and need to be replaced if over 10 yrs replace them all.

Maybe the AC power is not on, or not on constantly, and the batteries are being consumed prematurely.

Be sure that your using brand new batteries. I have installed some brand new smoke detector that have started chirping in a week or so too. Changed them with brand new batteries and they are Ok now

If you pull down the detector heads make sure the molex connector is snapped in securely.

Make sure the HO is replacing the battery with the proper type. I once had a custome with this complaint - they had replace the battery with a standard zinc-carbon battery, not alkaline. The detector did not like it.

FWIW, the last batch I put in a place all came with essentially dead batteries and were chirping within a couple of days. This has happened to me several times now.

If the house has several smoke detectors that are connected with each other, you need change battery for all of them. Otherwise, one dead battery will cause all of them making the noise.

Not on the ones in my house. I am about to replace them though. They are 10 years old. I am going to replace with units that will be shipped along with batteries with a 10 year warranty.
