smoke alarms

Whats the code in Mass. for smoke alarms? One in every hallway outside of a bedroom, and on the tops and bottoms of all stairs, 1 CO alarm on every floor? Arc fault protected? I also heard they are suppose to be on their own dedicated circuit? If the house has no arc fault breakers, should a dedicated 15 amp arc fault breaker be installed for the smoke alarm circuit? Anyone have any good references for this?

NFPA 72 might be a start. Call Fire Marshal and ask him what he thinks.

do smoke alarms usually have to be on a dedicated circuit? I've heard yes, but I also heard to wire them from the bedroom because they need to be arc fault.

Per the NEC, the smoke alarm outlets installed within the bedrooms must be afci protected. Connecting these afci protected outlets to a dedicated circuit or to a circuit with other outlets is purely a design consideration.
