By definition a central station is manned.

The need for smoke detectors would be defined by the building codes, such as the IBC.

If I were designing a remote supervising station, I would require complete smoke coverage, along with sprinklers and it would have to be manned, atleast two people 2007 72.8.3.6.2.1
